Canberra Poetry Slam: September Special

The Canberra Poetry Slam is featuring both Art Underground, and Marriane Scholem.

https://www.facebook.com/artundergroundopenmic

In 2014 Art Underground has established itself as another fantastic avenue for Canberra Creatives to showcase their work and talents. Founded by Arrin Chapman, Lauren Harvey, Aaron Kirby and Fiona McLeod, the event has featured poets, storytellers, artists and musicians. The organisers have also published zines from each event, and created collaborative poems.

Marriance Scholem is a Canberra based singer-songwriter who has featured across Bad!Slam! No!Biscuit, Art Underground and the You Are Here Festival. In October 2014 she will be a featured artist on TedxCanberra 2014, and will release her first EP later in the year.

Canberra Poetry Slam is pumped to bring you these great artists. We will also have the open mike and the Poetry Slam. Donations will be collected in a brass apple and split across the feature artists.

March Poetry Slam feat. Catherina Behan

This month we are very lucky to feature the wonderful Poet Catherina Behan. She has competed in the NSW Slam finals and is a regular fixture on the spoken word scene in  Sydney. She is even the inspiration behind the pretty lady drawing featured for this month’s poster.Image

We will also feature music by Nina Haysler, who is part of a folk band, a solo singer, and newly minted residence of the place that bends space and time, the magic chicken house.

There will be poetry, music, coffee, whisky, health friendly snacks and devilishly good cakes. You will bring your friends, and perform your words in three minutes and judged on paper.

Samuel Spencer will graduate to being a Full Slam HOST, and I will bring the chaos.

8pm, on the 28th of March sent to the Front Cafe.

Notes on the Poetry Slam

It was good to get back to hosting the Poetry Slam after a long, almost three month break.

We featured Raphael Kabo who was awesome. Sam Spencer very ably co-hosted the event with me in the absence of JC, who is traversing somewhere around the world. The great things about the night included listening to new and returning poets come ang give a shot in the Competition. Each had new words, and strength in their delivery.

So yeah, this is not meant to be an indepth piece about the slam at the moment. Safe to say that its great to be back.
